Business of the Week: Yankee Goldsmiths PDF Print E-mail

NEWPORT – Mother’s Day is fast approaching, and for one child in the Sebasticook Valley, that means a very special gift to offer dear ol’ Mom. Yankee Goldsmiths, co-owned by Scott Washburn (seen in photo) and Rusty Bickford, is once again conducting a drawing contest for the elementary students of Newport Elementary School, Vickery School, and Warsaw Middle School, whereby the students will design their own piece of jewelry on paper which will be entered in an art contest. The winner of the art contest will then have their own creation made into an actual piece of jewelry that they can give to their mother for Mother’s Day. There are expected to be close to 1,000 entrants, and all ages may participate in the contest. The winner will be selected the week of May 5, and the jewelry will be made and presented to the winner on Saturday, May 10, just before Mother’s Day. There will also be 20 honorable mentions for the top designs.
Yankee Goldsmiths opened its doors in June of 2004, offering various types of jewelry like Maine tourmaline and other colorful gemstones, diamond jewelry and estate jewelry. Most pieces are crafted in the store and are backed by their personal guarantee. They offer a hometown feel and take pride in their work, always looking to create the perfect piece for that special occasion.
If you are looking for a custom-made piece of jewelry or would care to browse the beautiful selection Yankee Goldsmiths has on display, stop in the store which is located on 19 Moosehead Trail. Their hours are Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. If you have questions, you may call them at 368-5590. Currently, there is no website, but one will be coming soon!
